The military personnel who serve to protect freedom and way of life deserve the respect of all United States citizens who enjoy those freedoms. Two-thirds of those who served in Vietnam were volunteers. Most of them say that they are glad to have served their country and would serve again. Targeted for readers who enjoy war stories, “Tears of a Patriot, An American Warrior in Vietnam” recognizes the stress and sacrifice that veterans experience.
“Over 40 years ago I witnessed firsthand the disrespect given to our veterans by college professors, students, and the media. It created a hurt that has diminished, but not gone away, over the years.”
The story begins in Texas, this historical fiction story follows Jack Stryker – his third year at the University of Texas, his commissioning in the Navy, and three deployments to Vietnam. His platoon becomes feared predators in the vile swamp of the Mekong Delta, but returning from the war was more hurtful than the wounds of combat.
“Tears of a Patriot” concentrates on the Vietnam War era and the problems encountered during this period. “Small units of the Navy and Marine Corps Special Operations Group were successful in fulfilling their assigned missions, under difficult and stressful situations. Most were very happy to survive combat and return home, but their welcome back in the States was sometimes more difficult than the stress of combat.”
An excerpt from this book:
Our Vietnam veterans who survived combat were happy to come home after their tour of duty, but they didn’t expect to be met with derision by some factions for serving their country.
